2007 Season Review Released

We have released our 2007 Season Review and you'll notice under notable records for 2007 that Lake Travis wide receiver Jason Bird established not only a new state record, but a national record for receptions in a single season with 153. The old record belonged to Chris Martin of Nitro, W.V. with 132 in 1998. It's rare to break a national record, but to better one by such a large margin is even more rare.

Compiling state and national records can be sketchy at times. If anyone notices an inaccuracy or an accomplishment that was left off, please contact us and we will makes changes where warranted.

Rivas gives verbal pledge to Texas State

Txprepsfootball.com All Texas Team offensive POY, running back Mishak Rivas of Weslaco High School gave his oral commitment to Texas State. Another 4-5 inches in height and Rivas probably would have been one of the most sought after running backs in the country.

New Duncanville coach receives increase

New Duncanville coach Jeff Dicus will make $104,000 annually next season which represents about a $11,000 increase over the $92,767.20 he made in leading Lake Travis to a state title last year.

That salary will make Dicus one of the state's better paid head coaches, especially considering he does not have to assume athletic director duties as well.

News and Notes

Lake Travis coach Jeff Dicus will be taking over the reins of the Duncanville Panthers next year. Duncanville found success in the mid nineties, making the playoffs nine consecutive years from 1996-2004, including a state championship in 1998, but fell on hard times recently, missing the playoffs the past three seasons and posting a 3-7 record in 2007. Dicus was also the head coach for three seasons at Boerne and two at Mission and led each to the playoffs, before leading the Cavaliers to a state championship.

In another coaching move, Plano East offensive coordinator Gerald Perry has been selected as the head coach of Bastrop.

Speaking of moving, SI.com is reporting that former Texarkana High QB Ryan Mallett has enrolled at the University of Arkansas, after leaving Michigan.

Under Armour HS All-America Bowl Saturday 1/5/08
