Austin, TX – The UIL has announced its five Texas Dodge Dealers Lone Star Cup winners for the 2007-08 season. For the second straight year, a tiebreaker was needed to determine a class champion.
For the second time in two years, Conroe The Woodlands has collected the Class 5A trophy, with 84 points. Defending 5A champion Plano West was fourth, with 68, sandwiched by Southlake Carroll (80), which won back-to-back 4A Cups in 2001 and 2002, and Katy Cinco Ranch (70).
Humble Kingwood, which lost a tiebreaker to Plano West last year for the Class 5A trophy, finished sixth this year with 64 points.
Highland Park in Dallas won the Class 4A Texas Dodge Dealers Lone Star Cup for a record setting sixth consecutive year and finished with a whopping 98 points. It is the ninth Texas Dodge Dealers Lone Star Cup for Highland Park.
Friendswood finished runner-up to Highland Park, with an impressive 80 points.
With 74 points, Canyon held off Argyle for its second consecutive Class 3A Texas Dodge Dealers Lone Star Cup. Argyle, which finished with 68 points, is in its second season in Class 3A after winning the Class 2A Texas Dodge Dealers Lone Star Cup in 2006.
Salado tied Poth, with 60 points each in the race for this year’s Class 2A Texas Dodge Dealers Lone Star Cup. Salado won the tiebreaker (most state championships) to collect its first-ever trophy: Salado won a state championship in baseball last weekend in Austin, while Poth was state runner-up in both volleyball and girl’s basketball.
It’s the second straight year for Poth to finish runner-up for the Class 2A Texas Dodge Dealers Lone Star Cup. Defending champ Tatum was seventh with 46 points.
Lindsay is the Class A Texas Dodge Dealers Lone Star Cup winner for the third straight season, garnering 64 points. Seymour finished runner-up, with 59.
The five 2007-08 Texas Dodge Dealers Lone Star Cup winners will be formally recognized during award presentations at each respective high school during the 2008-09 school year.
The Texas Dodge Dealers Lone Star Cup recognizes five high schools (one in each of the five UIL classifications) based on their overall team achievement in a variety of sanctioned athletic and academic championships. All UIL member high schools in good academic and athletic eligibility standing are included for contention for the Texas Dodge Dealers Lone Star Cup.
The Texas Dodge Dealers are a proud UIL Corporate Partner as the official vehicle of the Texas high school championships. The Texas Dodge Dealers Lone Star Cup program began during the 1997-98 season.
