Class 1A Cayuga, who was ranked #1 by most publications, including us, went down to class 2A Frankston over the weekend, but I wouldn't count the Wildcats out of a long playoff run. Frankston returned 16 players from a 6-4 team and they should have a good chance to make the playoffs in class 2A.
We're running a poll right now on the class 5A page and district 8-5A is tied for the lead as being the toughest district in the state as I write this. Yes that would be the same district that went 2-5 over the weekend. The five teams expected to be at the the top of 8-5A all went down to defeat, including Allen, Plano, Plano East, Plano West and Wylie, while the expected lesser teams of the district, Jesuit and McKinney Boyd, garnered the only wins.

Good Night for Football
Katy attempts to break Galena Park North Shores' 78 game regular season win streak tonight at 7pm, while Duncanville and Odessa Permian meet in the Alamodome at 4pm. We're heading to what looks to be a great matchup between Cedar Hill and DeSoto in a game televised on ESPN at 6pm. Go to the news page and click on Week Zero Scoreboard for all the scores from the weekend.
Lobos Win Classic Battle Over Allen
We said before the start of the season that Longview may be as talented as any team in the state regardless of classification and they made a statement in Week Zero with a hard fought 28-25 win over defending class 5A DI champion Allen, in a game they trailed 17-0 at halftime.

Texas and High School Football
In Texas everything is bigger and better. The men are stronger, the women are prettier and the kids are smarter. We work hard and play hard. We love our families and we love our communities. It's time to kickoff one of the things we love the most; high school football.
Every team is undefeated and chomping at the opportunity to beat up on someone besides themselves. The players, coaches, bands, cheerleaders and fans are geared up for another great season of Texas high school football as Christmas time arrives once again in late August.
Great games all over the state in Week Zero, including several in class 5A.
DeSoto vs. Cedar Hill
North Shore vs. Katy
Allen vs. Longview
Hebron vs. Wylie
San Antonio O'Conner vs. San Antonio Madison

UIL All-Century Team
The UIL has opened up voting for the UIL All-Century Football Team. Here's our All-Time Texas Team assembled last year. Not quite sure why the UIL doesn't have Sammy Baugh listed at both QB and punter.

Open House at Cowboys Stadium
The home of America's Team is impressive to say the least, but the massive video screen leaves me wondering if the game will merely be a distraction. The screen is so overwhelming it seems that fans in the upper reaches of the stadium will more inclined to view the monster screen than the action on the field.
Maybe it's just me, but the stadium is a little pristine for my taste. Give me the open air and snow at Lambeau Field or Mile High Stadium in Denver. No question Cowboys Stadium will be a shrine to comfort when it comes to football watching, but if it's comfort I want I can watch from my living room. I want to brave the elements along with the players; where teams have to take the wind into consideration or rain makes the pigskin as slippery as a soap covered rubber ducky.
The concessions do seem to offer a variety of good eats, if only I could afford them. I've never figured out why professional sports teams feel it is their sworn duty to gouge the fans at every turn when it comes to food and drink. The dogs are $5.50, bottled water is $5.00 (I just bought a case of 24 for $3.99), and a soft drink that looks to be about 15-20 ounces is $6.00 (the commemorative cup must be $5.00). I guess I could afford a bag of chips for only $3.00.
Now I know what you're thinking; what a bunch of belly aching. Hey, I just call it like I see it. Besides, I just found a site where I can get a decent seat to a Cowboy game for only $300 and I have a plan.
I paid big bucks to go to a Texas/OU game a few years ago only to be in a crowd next to some college students. I realized the reason the guys next to us were spilling into our comfort zone was because the three of them were sardined in between two seats. I asked the student next to us what the deal was, and he responded that he and his buddy were splitting a seat. I harkened back to my college days and only then did I refrain from calling security.
Anyone want to split a seat?
