Open House at Cowboys Stadium

It was open house day at the stadium where four high school football games will be played over Labor Day weekend.

The home of America's Team is impressive to say the least, but the massive video screen leaves me wondering if the game will merely be a distraction. The screen is so overwhelming it seems that fans in the upper reaches of the stadium will more inclined to view the monster screen than the action on the field.

Maybe it's just me, but the stadium is a little pristine for my taste. Give me the open air and snow at Lambeau Field or Mile High Stadium in Denver. No question Cowboys Stadium will be a shrine to comfort when it comes to football watching, but if it's comfort I want I can watch from my living room. I want to brave the elements along with the players; where teams have to take the wind into consideration or rain makes the pigskin as slippery as a soap covered rubber ducky.

The concessions do seem to offer a variety of good eats, if only I could afford them. I've never figured out why professional sports teams feel it is their sworn duty to gouge the fans at every turn when it comes to food and drink. The dogs are $5.50, bottled water is $5.00 (I just bought a case of 24 for $3.99), and a soft drink that looks to be about 15-20 ounces is $6.00 (the commemorative cup must be $5.00). I guess I could afford a bag of chips for only $3.00.

Now I know what you're thinking; what a bunch of belly aching. Hey, I just call it like I see it. Besides, I just found a site where I can get a decent seat to a Cowboy game for only $300 and I have a plan.

I paid big bucks to go to a Texas/OU game a few years ago only to be in a crowd next to some college students. I realized the reason the guys next to us were spilling into our comfort zone was because the three of them were sardined in between two seats. I asked the student next to us what the deal was, and he responded that he and his buddy were splitting a seat. I harkened back to my college days and only then did I refrain from calling security.

Anyone want to split a seat?
