14-5A Title to be Decided Tonight

The Woodlands Highlanders (8-0) will travel to Abe Martin Stadium in Lufkin tonight to meet the Lufkin Panthers (7-1) in a game that will decide the winner of district 14-5A.

The Highlanders will be battling recent history as well as they are 0-5 against Lufkin since the Panthers moved to the district, including last year's 15-13 loss.

Game time forecast calls for temperatures around 50 degrees with an overflow crowd expected. Give us Lufkin to continue their dominance over the Highlanders, 35-24.

Just down the road from Lufkin, the Alto Yellow Jackets and Cayuga Wildcats match up in Alto to determine the winner of district 20-1A. We're taking Cayuga, 30-21.

Look for Cayuga RB Traylon Shead, who is now the 2nd leading rusher of all-time in Texas to have a big night.

Shead Now 3rd on All-Time Rushing List

Cayuga running back Traylon Shead, a senior Texas commit, rushed for 240 yards on eight carries Friday night and now stands third on the state's all-time rushing list with 8,623 career yards.

Shead has 1,027 yards after five games this season for the Wildcats, and now trails only Corpus Christi Calallen's Wes Danaher (8,855 yards) and Sugar Land's Kenneth Hall, the state and national record-holder with 11,232 yards. Shead needs to average 261 yards per game through the Class A Division II state championship to eclipse Hall's record.

Shead also now stands fifth on the all-time career touchdown list with 116. In his path stand Cedris Benson (127), Hall (127), Robert Strait (128) and record holder Jacquizz Rodgers (136).

Shead may have a shot at both records if Cayuga can win out.

State Farm Looking for HS Football Videos

State Farm is looking for the best high school football plays of 2009 in a YouTube video contest called "Friday Night Feats." The top four videos in Texas will win $2,500 and the chance to win the grand prize of $15,000 for the high school. The contest runs through Nov. 22.

Spring Dekaney Sophomore RB on a Roll

Spring Dekaney sophomore running back Trey Williams is proving to be a handful for opposing defenses this year. He has 1,242 yards and 15 TDs on the season, but has really kicked it in to high gear recently. He is averaging over 300 yards per game over the last three contests, including 375 against Spring Westfield and 328 against Klein Forest, who were expected to be the front runners in district 13-5A.

Plano West Just Scored Again!

McKinney Boyd continues to rack up points on offense behind quarterback Jonovan Griffin who passed for 380 yards and rushed for 149 for a total of 529 yards against Plano West last week as Boyd racked up 40 points. One small problem.......Plano West scored 84.

If you're wondering, the combined score record for a Texas high school football game is 143 points set by El Paso Burges 87 vs. El Paso Austin 56 in 2004. The 84-40 (124 points) McKinney Boyd vs. Plano West score did make the top ten (tied for tenth).
