Shead has 1,027 yards after five games this season for the Wildcats, and now trails only Corpus Christi Calallen's Wes Danaher (8,855 yards) and Sugar Land's Kenneth Hall, the state and national record-holder with 11,232 yards. Shead needs to average 261 yards per game through the Class A Division II state championship to eclipse Hall's record.
Shead also now stands fifth on the all-time career touchdown list with 116. In his path stand Cedris Benson (127), Hall (127), Robert Strait (128) and record holder Jacquizz Rodgers (136).
Shead may have a shot at both records if Cayuga can win out.
