More Records ......

In addition to the record pursuits we mentioned below, there were two state records set in the final week of the season that seemed to go largely unnoticed, and oddly enough they were set by two players on the same team in a LOSING effort.

Carrollton Newman Smith defeated Richardson Pearce in a high scoring 70-56 slugfest on the final Friday of the season and in the process the Richardson Pearce pass/catch duo of QB Mac Morse and WR Blake Jumonville both set state records.

Morse threw for 634 yards to break the single game passing yardage record of Laredos' Alvaro Garcia set in 2006 against San Antonio Reagan and Jumonville caught 19 passes totaling 386 yards to break the single game receiving yardage record establised by Randy Boone of Chillicothe set in 1984.
